Tourism Australia “Making Tracks Ep 3”
Personally, this project was the best thing I've been involved with. And the results vouch for it as it picked up the award for Best in Show as well as Best Social Media Marketing at the Interactive Advertising Bureau Awards in 2011. It was also a finalist at Cannes, One Show, Spikes and many more award shows worldwide.
This ended up being the hero piece from the 4 episodes of the campaign. There was something magic about the simple notion of getting 2 musicians from opposite ends of the spectrum and following their journey around Australia and as they collaborate to write a song inspired by their experience. I was given a lot of lead way creatively so i just took what was admittedly an overwhelming amount of footage and ran with it. The song Jasmine and Dewayne created ended up being the song used for Tourism Australia's international campaign and launched Dewayne's career. The original cut breathed a lot more than the final edit, but to get an online video noticed it needs to be cut short and purposefully. And the sacrifice was worth it.
Shortly after it's launch, the campaign had 2.7 million views on Youtube. In the Travel and Event section in March 2011, it held Australia’s number one spot in the Most Viewed, Most Discussed, Top Rated and Top Favourite categories and was also Australia’s 25th most viewed of all time and the seventh most viewed worldwide. Very proud of this one.
