The Horror Show

There's something about the horror genre. The enjoyment one can get from the dark and obscene is something difficult to be comfortable with, but at the same time something we all share. Horror movies are one of the few experiences that allow us to tap into that part of our consciousness without threat. Love them or hate them, they demand a reaction. This video is a tribute to them. My fascination with horror films started when I was very young. I somehow stumbled across the movie Halloween at an age more suited to a diet of Disney films. I only saw 10 minutes of the movie. The part I saw was not violent in any way. It merely involved a girl walking home from school and spotting a man in a white mask looking at her. That was it. And yet that image has stayed with me to this day. Its like it had tapped into some deep, buried fear. One that not even I had been aware of. And at the same time it was strangely enjoyable. I wanted the video to have the feel of a roller coaster, straddling the line between being entertained and terrified. The video shifts gears from the more suggestive to extreme terror, even managing to become playful in parts - all the bases a horror movie operates on. The song Dead by the Pixies was perfect to represent all this, with it's strong sense of menace captured in what is essentially a playfully demented pop song. I think this is one of the strongest edits I've done, particularly from a pure cutting standpoint. It had received almost 500,000 views on Youtube and has often been referred to as "the best horror montage on the net".
